Younger voting generations no faith in Fianna Fáil for E.U

25 May

A survey put to 70 under 30 Irish voters has shown that Ireland’s younger generation of voters have no little or no confidence in Brian Cowen’s Fianna Fáil government with regard to the European elections.

The independent survey depicts that 0% of under 30s are opting to vote for the Party. This comes during  the height of the economic downturn, showing a clear dissatisfaction with how the government are dealing with the recession. One individual commented saying: “While Fianna Fáil are probably more reliable than Fine Gael, they just haven’t been doing enough to help out those who really need it. They can’t expect to win votes with the  emergency Budget and their lack of focus on middle income earners, who are at more of a loss than anyone.”  Over half of those surveyed have said that unemployment is the deciding factor in the party receiving their vote, while an alarming 75% feel that they are not being given relevant information on which they can base their final decisions.

Pan-European party, Libertas also got a vote of no confidence from Ireland’s youth as Labour and Fine Gael each received 25 %, while other parties (ie green party, independents etc) look to be receiving 25 % of the vote among young people in Ireland. 25% of those polled claim to not care about the elections, or are undecided about for whom they will be voting. The survey also shows that only 25% of will vote for a different party in the local counsel elections. Both Polls will be held on the 5th of June.
